- Devils Canyon is a beautiful slot in a remote section of the San Rafael Swell. Access is relatively easy. The area is popular with ATV riders but few hike here and so it is easy to find solitude. The scenery is amazing, with towering cliffs and majestic slickrock buttes rivaling the famous formations in Zion National Park.
- The Swell is a playground for the whole family. With several popular hikes in the region that take you through slot canyons (Little Wild Horse Canyon) to breathtaking vistas (the Wedge Overlook) and in an amongst the goblins in Goblin Valley, this area offers a wide variety of family adventures.
Overview
Ding and Dang Canyons, San Rafael Swell, Utah Ding and Dang, also known as First and Second canyons, are the next two breaks through the San Rafael Reef west of Bell and Little Wild Horse canyons, and are reached by the same maintained access road, starting from Goblin Valley State Park.

Eardley requires a fair bit of effort for a short technical section. Due to its proximity to Salt Lake, and the beauty of the technical section, it is one I recommend. The pools make it a good choice when it's hot. Due to its pothole nature, it has a very different character depending on the water level. Regardless of water level, it is charming.
There are two differnt approach options. Option 1, the regular route, is a bit long and detracts a bit from the day. Option 2, the shortcut approach, offers intricate and elegant route finding down to just when Eardley gets good. I would recommend Option 2 for most groups, it makes for a much more enjoyable day though does involve a bit of route finding and scrambling.
